All potential adoptive families presented through Gifts of Grace are:

  • Committed Christians who are actively involved in their church
  • In agreement with Gifts of Grace's Statement of Faith
  • At least 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
  • Married a minimum of three years
  • Open to adopting a child of any race/ethnicity
  • Home Study approved
  • Stable, without any major life changes in the past twelve months
  • Trained and prepared for the adjustments ahead

The process for hopeful adoptive families includes:

  • Program Application

Hopeful adoptive families go through a thorough application and screening process in order to adopt. The couple will also answer questions about why they want to adopt, how they've prepared for adoption, and hopes regarding openness in adoption.
  • Home Study

Every family that adopts a child through Gifts of Grace is required to have a current, approved Home Study. An adoption home study includes 1-2 home visits and interviews to gain information about how the family has prepared for adoption, the current family structure, the marital relationship, parenting style and strengths, home environment and community, financial profile, reference checks, health screenings, and background checks including sex offender, criminal law checks, and Child Protective Service checks.
  • Board of Directors Approval

All applications to participate in the adoption program are reviewed by the Board of Directors. The Directors review each application, making sure the hopeful adoptive family meets all of the state and agency requirements and would be a good family for a child.
  • Waiting

The process for hopeful adoptive families includes: Most approved program families will spend some time on the waiting list until a birth mom chooses them to be her baby's adoptive parents. During their time on the waiting list, hopeful adoptive families will work on creating a profile book that gives a snapshot of what life in their family looks like. These profile books are offered to the birth moms who are at the stage of selecting an adoptive family for their baby.
  • Presentation and Match

The process for hopeful adoptive families includes: Birth moms who are working with Gifts of Grace complete paperwork about their preferences for the kind of adoptive family they would like for their baby. When it is time for a match, the Gifts of Grace staff pulls the profile books of the families that match the preferences of the birth mother. The birth mother gets to review all the matching profile books for hopeful adoptive families and from there will select the family of her choice. If a birth mom doesn't want to make the selection Gifts of Grace staff can help do that for her.
  • Matched Meetings
